The 06 Season -- Is This Thing On?

Get your balls ready!

Greetings Newshounders! After a long hiatus, the Newshounds blog is back in action! We all know how much you missed us, sitting there in the dead of night, pounding your head against the monitor and begging the gods of media softball blogging for a new post about anything, anything, to get you safely through those wintry off-season months.

Your wish is our command. We're back, and this time its personal. We've got lots of work to do. This season ain't gonna make itself happen, according to an ominous, probing note from the Icon of Media League Softball, the Sultan of Swing, the Potentate of the Home Plate, the King of the Crotch Grab, the Jester of Jock Straps, the world famous Vegas Entertainer and Ladies Man Extraordinaire, League Commissioner Tom "It's Not Unusual" Jones:

I hope that all of you, and your families had a wonderful holiday season. It's time to start getting the ball moving if there is to be a season this year. We need a sponsor for the league, or several sponsors, in order for us to pay for the field, the umpires, the score keeper, etc.
Damn he's good! "Get the ball moving" -- nice wordplay, Tom! That's why he's the Man at the Top, and we're here in our underwear making anonymous wisecracks about the dude's name.

Anyway, on to business. Tom has a jones for knowing what's what this season, specifically who wants to play and whether game times should change. Personally, we'd love to cut out the 8 a.m. match-ups, but we're a little leary of monkeying with a schedule that lots of folks are already used to. But apparently everything's on the table, folks. So if you have any suggestions about the league, rules, game times, number of teams, rosters, catering, whatever, start piling them up in the comments section, and we'll forward them to the Home Office in Vegas, baby, Vegas.

Meanwhile, one our end, we'll start seeing who wants to play. And once we get more details in place, we'll put up the sign-up sheet and start taking orders for jerseys.

Here's to an awesome season!
