A Note on Substitutions, Extra Batters

We had some questions about substituting players. Luckily, our league commissioner offers some insight:

Substitutions, If a player is subbed into bat for another, only, then the person now not batting can still take the field. However the person that came into bat is no longer able to come in or out of the game from that point on. Once a player is taken out of the field he/she is done for the day.

Clear as mud? Looks as if we can pinch hit, in a way, but pinch hitters can't field. And once you've been subbed off the field, you're done for the day.

We also asked about having an extra hitter in the lineup, that way subs could still hit if they don't get to field. The ruling:

As far as the extra batter in the line up, yes you can bat an extra, even if that player doesn't take the field. The EH (Extra Hitter) can be a man or woman. If you bat a man, you could though most don't add another EH but it would have to be a woman. You can actually bat as many extra batters as you want, but when you do this you must alternate man/ woman for each extra you bat.
